Pond water organisms – Macrophysics or large plants, dominates the terrestrial environment. Take a look at a pond, and you will see a very different scenario. Ponds is dominated by a multitude of smaller plants ┬ámany which are visible with the naked eye and even more which can only be seen under a microscope.

Pond water organisms include algae. Algae are a diverse group of microscopic green plants that dominate the pond environment. Algae lives as individual cells (single-cell) or in large groups of colonies forming filaments -strings of several algae. Algae produce both sexually and asexually. Algae usually thrive in ponds with high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen, producing an abundance of oxygen. Euglena is unique single-celled organisms that show both animals and plants. As a plant it is lonely and free-flowing and found mostly stagnant pond water. Euglena form large colonies and are distinctive green scum on ponds ground. Each Euglena has 35 and 55 micrometers (microns) in length.

Another pond water organisms is spirogyra. Spirogyra is large colonial masses of microscopic plants that are common to ponds, lakes and rivers. They appear as spiral bands of green appear under a microscope. Spirogyra, also called water-silk and seaweed, is a large group of almost 400 species. Spirogyra reproduces both sexually and asexually.
